RULE OF THIRDS

Definition:

The rule of thirds is imagining breaking down an image into thirds. It is broken down both vertically and horizontally so that you have 9 parts. The rule of thirds has intersection points which are also known as hot spots. These hot spots are focal points of the photo that you are taking or have taken. The focal point of a picture is where you want your audience to focus on the most hens the name.

The purpose of this shoot was to see what was around me in a more focused perspective. I wanted to take the things that we see everyday and change them for the better and improve the everyday and familiar environments around us. I wanted to make some pictures vibrant and stand out and then others gritty and dark so that there was a variety of different looks.

Some successful elements of my shoot are the stairs in black and white and the broken glass window in black and white and also the bin where the main focus is on the bin and the brick wall is blurred.

Some improvements that need to be made are that I need to get a wider variety of photos as I have quite a few pictures of trees and lines and I feel that they are all similar in some way so I need to take more pictures and add them to my website.

From learning and using the rule of thirds in my work, I have been able to achieve a balance in my images. I feel that from using the rule of thirds, I will be able to benefit from my skills in further shoots and if and when I do re-shoots and different topics and shoots.
